SCOTT DOUGLAS WINS INAUGURAL AMSOIL CUP
Crandon, WI (September 8, 2010) —AMSOIL Motorsports
Marketing Manager Jeremy Meyer could not have scripted a more
perfect scenario to launch the new AMSOIL Cup. Traditionally the
biggest short course
off-road race of the year, the Labor Day weekend Cup race pits PRO
2WD trucks against PRO 4X4 trucks in an all-out dash for cash.
BorgWarner has been the title sponsor of the prestigious race for
past 17-years, but decided to retire the BorgWarner Cup this year.
Jeremy Meyer seized the opportunity and created the AMSOIL Cup to
continue the tradition. AMSOIL has made a five-year commitment to
the AMSOIL Cup sponsorship along with a record $25,000 payout for
first, $5,000 for second, and $2,500 for third.

AMSOIL’s commitment to the sport was rewarded in the inaugural
race when ASMOIL PRO 4X4 driver Scott Douglas won the Cup, beating a
huge field that included the best talent in the sport - from Robby
Gordon, to Rob MacCacheren and Johnny Greaves. Before the largest
crowd in Crandon history, Scott Douglas paid respect to Jack
Flannery, the late off-road legend who recently lost his battle with
cancer in a post race speech to the fans and Crandon staff that
included Jake and Cliff Flannery. “I did it the way Jack Flannery
would’ve done it…wide open, throw it in every corner, totally
commit, and don’t worry about nothin’ and that’s the way we did it,”
said Douglas to the cheering race fans. The win is the third Cup
victory for Scott Douglas, winning the BorgWarner Cup twice, once in
1997 and again in 2006 and now the AMSOIL Cup in 2010.
The AMSOIL Cup race challenges PRO 2WD trucks against PRO
4X4s. The PRO 2WDs start 12 seconds ahead of the slightly faster PRO
4X4s, so for a four-wheel-drive truck to win, they must not only
beat the other PRO 4X4s, but also work through the entire PRO 2WD
field. Scott Douglas leaned on his Pro Power Racing engine hard and
pulled a holeshot to lead the pack around Crandon’s treacherous
high-speed turn one. Douglas stayed on the gas, pitching number 7
deep into corner after corner, quickly closing the gap on the PRO
2WDs. Within a few laps Douglas was mixing it up with the 2WDs,
picking them off, one at a time. By lap six, Douglas had caught race
leader Jeff Kincaid. Douglas and Rick Huseman passed Kincaid and
Huseman bumped past Douglas, but overdrove a corner and took himself
out of the race. Douglas had the lead with five to go and held off
advances from Johnny Greaves and Steve Barlow to take the checkered
flag.
Scott Douglas winning the biggest race of the year after
coming just inches from winning the Spring Crandon Cup race was
special for the Douglas Motorsport team, sponsors, and race fans
alike. The opening show of the exciting new TORC Series TV coverage
on Discovery HD Theater highlights the spring race and shows just
how close Douglas came to winning Crandon Cup. Winning the inaugural
AMSOIL Cup for his title sponsor wraps the season up in a made for
TV moment that brings the storyline full-circle.
Total purse for the AMSOIL Cup added up to more than $30,000.
In addition to AMSOIL’s contribution of $25,000 for first place,
Ford Motor Company awarded Scott Douglas $3,500 for being the first
F-150 across the finish line. Miller Electric and MasterCraft Safety
added to the generous AMSOIL Cup purse.
Douglas won the AMSOIL Cup in his backup truck after a
catastrophic fire burned the powertrain of the primary truck in
round 11 of TORC Series racing. Scott Douglas headed into the
Crandon weekend just 7 points out of first place in PRO 4x4. The
fire took Douglas out of points contention for PRO 4X4 title, but
thanks to his consistency in (top three) podium finishes Scott
maintained his standings in the points battle. Douglas bounced back
from the fire to finish on the podium in third in Sunday mornings
round 12. Scott Douglas finished the season third in PRO 4X4 points
with nine podiums in twelve races. The entire Douglas Motorsports
team congratulates Johnny Greaves and the Monster Energy team on a
well-deserved championship.
