Douglas Motorsports Comes Back with a Solid Finish on Sunday
-
-
El Cajon, CA (July 16, 2007) - Douglas Motorsports came to Bark
River looking for a strong showing, in the hope of making up the
deficit the team incurred, by missing the opening weekend of the
WSORR series. If Friday’s lap times were any indication, top
finishes in PRO-4WD were well within their reach.
Round 5
The mad rush, to the newly banked Turn One, saw Scott Douglas
grab the lead, with #22 Greaves and #17 Renezeder, directly
behind. As the field completed lap one, Scott was in second
place, just behind Greaves. About midway through the race, Scott
realized the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Ford F-150, wasn’t running at
its best. Then on lap 8, while running in second place, Scott
pulled off the track with a drive train failure. Officially, the
#7 Ford F-150 was awarded with a sixth place finish.
Later that evening, Scott Douglas commented on Round 5:
“We had a gear and a seal in the transfer case go bad. When that
happened, all the transmission fluid ran out of the transfer case,
and that ended our day. After the second lap, the bearing started
making noise, and then a vibration. During the race, I backed off
a bit, trying to determine if I had mud in a tire, or a flat. Then
I actually picked up the pace, figuring we could go, then it all
went. In addition to the transmission and transfer case, the motor
needed to be replaced; after we found metal shavings in the oil.
The crew convinced me to get the backup truck prepped for Sunday.
Don’t forget, it won two World Series races this year with Mike
Oberg driving, and it wants to get back out again.”
Sunday morning, the two laps of practice went well, and the team was
optimistic, even after an all night thrashing to get the truck “race
ready”.
Round 6
The start saw #22 Greaves grab the lead, with Scott Douglas in
second, and #17 Renezeder in third. The top two positions stayed
constant throughout the ten lap event. At the flag, Scott Douglas
and his #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Precision Gear Ford F-150, came home in
second place.

Back at his transporter, Scott Douglas talked with BUMPRACER.COM.

Today’s race had a much better outcome. From your
perspective, describe today’s race.
“Cenni got the holeshot, but he rolled in turn two. Then it
was me, Johnny, and Carl. Carl just couldn’t get around us. This
backup truck ran really well. Once Carl dropped out, there
wasn’t any reason to push too hard. Johnny had a good lead and
we got everything we could out of the setup. We missed the
gearing a bit, and a few other things that could have made us
better, but with only two laps of testing this morning, second
place was pretty good.”

You’ve mentioned how important having a second truck at the
track is for the team. Besides competition, how else is this
truck used?
“This is our R & D truck. Between races we try different chassis
setups. If it works well, we apply the knowledge to the primary
truck. At our next test session, we’re going to change some
suspension pivots, which is a pretty in depth job. The crew
decided to make the changes for today’s race, and sure enough,
the changes made an improvement in the truck.”
This track is considered a technical track. What do the
racers mean by that?
“This track really changes, as the weekend goes on. It develops
holes and ruts, and they get bigger as the weekend progresses.
Some tracks stay nice and smooth. Here, you need to change the
shock valving, to make the truck more pliable, for the changing
conditions. It’s a hard call though, because if you’re too
loose, you can roll the truck.”
-
Currently, Scott Douglas is in fourth place overall, in the quest
for the 2007 WSORR PRO-4x4 Championship.
Next Race: Aug. 10-12, 2007 - WSORR Rounds VII, VIII & IX - Bark
