Douglas Motorsports Continues to Run Up Front
El Cajon, CA (June 11, 2008) – Douglas Motorsports headed to The
Fairplex in Pomona, California looking for strong finishes to
put the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 at the top
of the Championship standings. After four rounds of racing,
Scott Douglas is in second place only 10 points behind the PRO-4
leader.
Saturday
The Saturday morning practice and qualifying session saw Scott
really power his way around the track. The #7 AMSOIL Kumho Ford
qualified second fastest only .016 seconds off the pole winning
time.
The Round 5 starting grid saw Scott line up on the inside of the
third row. The CORR official had inverted the six fastest
qualifiers.
The start saw Scott get a great launch as he quickly went
through the field and into the lead. The AMSOIL Kumho Ford had a
two truck lead just past the midway point of the first lap, when
the race was red flagged for an incident involving #86 Baldwin.
The restart saw Scott drive through traffic and putting pressure
on #99 Kyle LeDuc for the top spot. As the mandatory yellow
approached, #1 Renezeder joined the fray.
After the caution period, the race quickly became a battle
between #99 Kyle LeDuc, #4 Greaves, #1 Renezeder and #7 Scott
Douglas. As the laps wound down, the top four trucks raced side
by side as if they were running pace laps, except at 80 mph. At
one point the front runners went three wide, all looking to grab
the win. With three laps to go, racing contact caused the left
rear tire on the AMSOIL Kumho Ford to go flat. Undaunted Scott
pressed on. When the checkered flag came out, Scott Douglas
crossed the finish line in second place.
“That was some incredible racing,” exclaimed Scott Douglas. “The
four of us ran so tight, yet we all gave each other enough room
to race. When we went three wide, I was the definitely the meat
in the sandwich. The truck just came out of that deal in second
place. Thanks to ProPower for all the horsepower, Fox Shox
keeping the horsepower in control, AMSOIL for maximizing all the
power and Kumho for getting that power to the ground. Can’t wait
to get racing tomorrow.”
Sunday
As soon as Scott took the AMSOIL Ford out for practice, he knew
something was wrong. The torque converter failed, putting the #7
Sycuan F-150 at the back of the pack for the start of the
afternoon race. The question was would the team have enough time
to replace the transmission or run the backup truck?
Bill Smith, Jason Schampers, and the crew went to work
immediately, confident the primary race truck would be ready for
Round 6.
The crew had the #7 Ford ready in plenty of time for Scott to
make the fifteenth and final spot on the starting grid. When the
race started, Scott began working his way through traffic. At
the competition yellow, Scott had worked his way to seventh
place. With five laps to the finish, Scott had worked his way
into third place, right behind Curt LeDuc. Then things got
interesting. Leduc seemed to be really holding up Scott from
making a pass. While this was happening, Barlow was able to
close up on Scott. Then coming out of the final turn on the
final lap, there was contact every where. Rick Huseman took the
win, but behind him, Curt LeDuc got shoved back to fourth, and
Barlow and Scott Douglas had a drag race to the finish for the
runner up spot. In the end Scott Douglas finished third .07
seconds (about 2 feet) behind Barlow. Afterwards, LeDuc and
Barlow had words for each other.
“Man, I saw Barlow coming with a head of steam,” noted Scott
Douglas. “I didn’t want any part of that, so I moved over giving
Steve some room. Then he really got into Curt. His momentum
carried him past me, and then we drag raced to the line. Another
ten feet I would have had second place… I couldn’t ask for a
better team. The guys really had to hustle to replace the
transmission. Then having to start from last place and charging
through the field to finish on the podium, it’s a true testament
to everyone at Douglas Motorsports.”
Since the start of the season, Douglas Motorsports has qualified
first or second and finished on the podium five out of the six
rounds of racing.
After Round Six, Scott Douglas sits in second place in the CORR
PRO-4 Championship standings. Just nine point behind the leader.
Next CORR race for Douglas Motorsports is July 26-27 at “THE
QUARRY” in Chula Vista, California.
