Douglas Motorsports Takes a Win and Then Takes Some Contact

El Cajon, CA (June 25, 2007) - Scott Douglas came to Crandon looking to extend his win streak at the Off-Road Racing’s “Big House.” The Northern Wisconsin racetrack offered perfect weather conditions and ideal track prep allowing the huge crowd to witness an awesome day of competition.

Round 3

After starting from the second row, the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Precision Gear Alloy Axle Ford F-150 tucked in behind Kent Brasho exiting Potawatomi Turn One holding onto second place.

On lap 4, Scott came out of Turn Eight, in the lead. The #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire truck lead the rest of the way coming home with the win.

Afterwards Scott Douglas commented,

“I really wanted to race Kent Brascho clean. I was waiting for him to make a mistake, but he really held his own. I finally got him to go too deep into that final turn and grabbed the top spot. In the battle totake the lead, Scott went through twenty tear offs. The dirt and mud clogged the trans coolers, causing the temperatures climb to 320 degrees. The AMSOIL Synthetic really did its job getting the truck to the finish with a win. That makes four straight victories at Crandon.”

Scott Douglas is referring to the two division wins and the BorgWarner World Championship win in September, 2006. Actually, if you include the Douglas Motorsports PRO-4x4 wins by Mike Oberg, its seven straight Midwest short-course wins.

Round 4
The start of Sunday’s points race had the #7 Douglas Motorsports tuck in behind #8 Brascho, #43 Curt LeDuc, and #22 Greaves as the field powered past the main grandstands. After contact with #43, a rear tire went flat. Scott came in for a quick tire change, hoping that the flat had not caused any other damage. The fast work by Scott’s crew, kept the team on the lead lap.

With two laps to go, the AMSOIL Kumho Tire #7 had moved into fifth. On the final lap, Scott passed #32 Drews for the fourth spot, with his sights set on third place, #17 Renezeder. The final two turns were interesting as the two veterans battled for the final spot on the podium. At the flag, Scott came up a few feet short of third place.

Forest County Potawatomi Chairman’s Cup
The start saw Scott get a great jump on the competition as he lead the four-wheel drive field through Turn One. By the end of the third lap Scott had passed the entire field, except for fellow AMSOIL Kumho Super Team member and PRO-2WD racer, Mike Oberg.

About midway through the race, another competitor spun off the track at the raceway’s tightest turn at the base of the landrush start. As Scott came through that corner, the competitor reentered the track and proceeded to drive into the right side of the #7AMSOIL Kumho Ford. The hit flattened the right rear tire and bent the front control arm.
The race that began so promising, ended abruptly.

Afterwards Scott took some time to reflect on the day’s racing.

“Today the problems were not the fault of the tire, but the consequences of contact. In the points race we were having a real good battle, a little side by side rubbing, which is normal, then we got clobbered in the rear going through the Argonne Corner, and then again, going though the starting line hairpin corner, all by the same competitor. And that was the end of the tire. My guys really made a really quick tire change. We were able to get back out and make a charge for a podium finish. We just came up about ten feet short. My hat’s off to my crew. They kept us on the lead lap and put us back in position for a good finish.”

”Then in the Chairman’s Cup race we were running great and actually had the truck tuned up better than ever. We came up to a couple of two-wheel drive trucks that spun out in the far hairpin. I backed off to get around the guys, then as I tipped toed around them, Evans just drove into the side of the truck. It took out the right rear tire and bent up the front upper control arm as well. I don’t know why some of our competitors make such hard contact with other racers. The consequences of the heavy contact usually causes severe damage to their own truck as well as their competitor. It doesn’t benefit anyone. The contact in the Cup race still gets to me, we really had a good shot at the win, until the hit happened.”
