Douglas Motorsports Runs Up Front & Lands on Podium
El Cajon, CA (May 20, 2008) - After back to back third place
finishes in Pomona, Scott Douglas was looking to continue his
streak of podium finishes. The brand new Bill Smith designed,
Pro-Fab built PRO-4 performed extremely well at the CORR season
opener in Pomona, so the team had high expectations.
The track in Primm, Nevada was basically the same at it was for
the 2007 season finale. The only difference in 2008 was the air
temperature. The weekend saw temperatures exceeding 100 degrees
F. The unseasonably hot temperatures really taxed everyone at
the track, the track workers, the die hard CORR fans, the
drivers, and most of all the crew members of all the teams.
Round 3
The Friday afternoon qualifying sessions saw Scott Douglas and
his #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 stop the
clocks second fastest overall, with a time of 56.02 seconds,
just .30 seconds behind the polesitter.
Championship Off-Road Racing decided to invert the starting
order of the eight fastest qualifiers. This put the AMSOIL Kumho
Tire #7 back in the fourth row instead up front.
Saturday
The rolling start saw the fifteen truck field head for Turn One.
In six laps, Scott passed Renezeder, Greaves, Huseman, Coyne,
Cenni, Baldwin, and Leduc putting his Ford F-150 into the lead.
At the mandatory yellow Scott picked up the added bonus points
for leading at the halfway point of the race.
When the field went back to green flag racing, Scott found a
hard charging Greaves in his mirrors. A couple of laps later,
Scott had the rear tires break loose momentarily twitching the
back of the truck. When this happened, Greaves tagged the rear
of the truck causing damage to the rear suspension. One lap
later, Douglas Motorsports retired from the race as the
suspension damage caused the driveshaft to break, Officially
Scott Douglas finished in ninth place.
Quickly Bill Smith, Jason Schampers and the entire team quickly
accessed the damage, and then went to work replacing every
component necessary to be one hundred percent ready for Sunday.
By the time the truck was ready for qualifying, the entire rear
end housing, one track bar, one rear hub, one brake caliper, the
transmission housing, and the driveshaft were replaced.
Sunday Morning Qualifying
The late night thrashing on the Douglas Motorsports #7 was worth
it as Scott won the pole position with a time of 54.802 seconds
with an average lap speed of 61.75mph.
“My team is absolutely awesome,” exclaimed Scott Douglas. “The
guys didn’t just put the truck back together to make the show,
they gave me a real hot rod!”
Round 4
Again the top eight qualifiers were inverted for the day’s PRO-4
race. This put Scott in the middle of the field. Nonetheless,
when the green flag dropped Scott quickly moved forward.
At the mandatory yellow, the AMSOIL Kumho Sycuan Ford was third
in line. When green flag racing resumed, Renezeder, Kyle Leduc,
and Scott were racing for the second spot. Then with four laps
to go, the one of the axles on Scott’s truck, leaving him with
only three wheel drive. At that point he settled into third
place, bringing the team its third podium finish of the season.
This now puts Scott Douglas in second place in the 2008 CORR
PRO-4 Championship standings.
Afterwards Scott Douglas commented, “Our AMSOIL Kumho Tire
Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 was fast all weekend. Bill, Jason and
the guys really worked hard this weekend to keep me up front.
Saturday’s deal, John was coming hard, when the back end kicked
out and he hard no where to go. Today the truck was spot on,
until we broke an axle. Under the extreme heat of the weekend
AMSOIL kept everything running cool, the Kumho Tires really kept
us hooked up, our Fox Racing Shox really kept us fast through
the whoops, and I can’t say enough about my crew. Getting on the
podium during this weekend’s conditions really make me proud of
Douglas Motorsports.”
The next weekend of Championship Off-Road Racing is June 6-7,
back at The Fairplex, in Pomona, California.
Don’t forget to watch NBC Sports, May 25, 1:30pm eastern time,
