El Cajon, CA (November 5, 2007) - Douglas Motorsports headed to
Las Vegas, looking to take the $66,000 Baldwin Cup as well as the
PRO-4 points championship home to California. The AMSOIL Kumho
Tire Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 has been quick all year, so taking
home a CORR title a real possibility.
Coming into the weekend, Douglas Motorsports was thirty four
points behind the PRO-4 points leader, it was a long shot to bring
home the title, but a shot nonetheless.
The team automatically qualified for the Baldwin Cup by finishing
in the top-6 in the qualifier series as well.
The special built off-road track in Primm, was a .94 mile long
version of a true High Desert off-road course. The track consisted
of four CORR signature banked turns, a three table top jumps (one
was fifteen feet high and a couple hundred feet long), a tricky
step up jump, three medium sized jumps, and a long rhythm section.
Friday Qualifying
The AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Resort & Casino Ford F-150 stopped
the timers, second quickest with a lap time of 54.890 seconds.
PRO-4 Round 11
Scott Douglas took advantage of the outside front row starting
position and grabbed the lead. On lap four, Scott overshot turn
two, driving over the berm. He quickly gathered the truck up and
entered the fray in third place. With two laps to go, #36 Huseman
crashed hard, bringing out a full course yellow.
The restart closed all the gaps between the racers. As the field
came through Turn One, there was a lot of bumping going on between
the competitors. Unfortunately, Scott endured some of the contact,
causing the right front axle to break, which in turn bent a tie
rod. The combination of the two made the AMSOIL Kumho Tire Ford a
handful to drive. Scott continued on, at a reduced pace, finishing
in eleventh place.

“We really had our AMSOIL Kumho Tire Sycuan Resort & Casino Ford
F-150 dialed in today. The Kumhos really hooked up, Bill Smith
really had our Fox Racing Shox keeping our ProPower horsepower
on the ground and AMSOIL as usual, kept everything running at
optimum temperatures. The restart ended a good day for Douglas
Motorsports.”

Sunday Qualifying
Scott Douglas qualified second fastest with a lap time of 52.302
seconds, only .019 seconds off the pole position.
Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup
This winner take all event for $66,000 saw twelve PRO-2 and eleven
PRO-4 competitors looking to put their name on the unique trophy
and take home the big paycheck. The starting grid had all the
PRO-2 trucks in front of all the PRO-4 trucks. This put the #7
AMSOIL Kumho Ford on the outside of row six.
When the green flag fell on the sixteen lap event, the
twenty-three truck field kicked up huge amounts of dust going into
the first turn. The long opening ceremonies allowed the track to
dry out and now the dust made if difficult for the drivers and
spectators to see. CORR officials, on lap three, issued a full
course yellow to get some moisture in the track. When the watering
trucks got off the track, the field went back to green flag
racing.
On the restart #22 Greaves spun on the front straightaway, hitting
the concrete wall and tearing up the retaining fence. The race was
red flagged while repairs were made to the fence. About twenty
minutes later, racing resumed. With three laps to go, the AMSOIL
Kumho Tire Sycuan Casino Ford F-150 was in fifth place with only
one other PRO-4 in front of him. Scott made a pass on #5 when
contact was made, bending the shaft on the left rear suspension.
This ended Scott’s chance off bring home the Cup to El Cajon.
Quickly, Bill Smith and the team went to work repairing and
prepping the Ford F-150 for the final race of the short course
season. With only two hours to the final PRO-4 race of the year it
would be a battle against the clock to make the starting grid. As
the PRO-4 field was making its final warm-up lap, Scott drove onto
the track taking his front row starting position.
PRO-4 Round 12
The rolling start saw Scott put the ProPower horsepower to the
Kumho Tires and took the lead coming out of Turn One. Throughout
the entire seventeen lap event, Scott held the lead, fending off
all challengers. First #86 Baldwin attempted to catch Scott, later
#22 Greaves moved up to challenge, and finally #19 Troy Herbst
tried to catch the lightning fast AMSOIL Kumho Ford. The flag to
flag win, gave Douglas Motorsports the runner-up spot for the CORR
PRO-4 Championship.

“I
can’t say enough about my crew,” stated Scott Douglas. “Somehow
they got the truck repaired and prepped in time. The support
from Fox Racing Shox this year has been incredible. There shocks
are second to none. We’ve torn up a lot of stuff because of
racing contact and they are always right there with the support
we need to get us back on the track. Thanks to Greaves
Motorsports. We tore up a shock during the Cup race and Johnny
brought over a shock to get us back in the show. Then we went
out and raced each other side by side for much of this last
race. I can’t be happier for AMSOIL, Kumho Tire, and Sycuan
Casino. There the ones that make all of this happen and I’m so
glad we ended the season on a high note. This truck is smokin’
fast, I just wish we were racing here tomorrow.”
