Douglas Motorsports WSORR “Showdown in the Show-Me State” Race
Report
Douglas Concludes the WSORR Season with Two Podium Finishes
El Cajon, CA (September 26, 2007) - After a solid weekend of racing,
at the CORR event in Lancaster, California, Douglas Motorsports
quickly loaded up the hauler to make to the trek to Wheatland, MO
for the final weekend of racing in the World Series of Off-Road
Racing. This was the third race for the team in the month of
September, with one more CORR race on the schedule, next weekend,
back on the West Coast.
The team rolled into Wheatland, Thursday afternoon, to an incredible
race facility, complete with a paved pit area, concrete grandstands,
and two levels of skyboxes. The .8-mile off-road course ran through
the .5 mile high banked clay oval, with an additional loop that had
the off-road racers leap out of the oval and later jump back in. The
track designers threw in a rhythm section and a couple of
switchbacks that made this the most technical track on the WSORR
circuit.
The PRO-4x4 competitors had two Friday practice sessions. Scott
Douglas had his “01” AMSOIL Kumho Tires Precision Gear Ford F-150
turn in the second fastest time of the day. Chief Engineer, Bill
Smith, and his team really had the truck dialed-in to the technical
and rugged track.
Saturday
– Round 12
The start had the #7 AMSOIL Kumho Tires Precision Gear Ford F-150
grab the holeshot, with Renezeder and Greaves right on his bumper.
The three competitors were in a tight battle. On lap 2, Scott got
off course, from a tap from Renezeder, and hit one of the huge hay
bales. This allowed Renezeder, and later, Greaves, to move up in
position. Fortunately, Scott was able to get the AMSOIL Kumho truck
back in the battle. Immediately, Renezeder went into the Hot Pit to
serve a stop-n-go penalty for the contact with Scott. This put the
#7 Ford back into second, with Renezeder, again, right on his rear
bumper. Scott and Renezeder passed each other, back and forth, for
the second spot, several times all the way to the finish.
At the end of the 14-lap event, it was Greaves-1st, Renezeder-2nd,
and Scott Douglas-3rd.
“This
is a very demanding track,” commented Scott Douglas. “It’s very
technical, with huge jumps, and a brutal rhythm section. It’s a
lot of fun to race on.”
Sunday - Round 13
Again, Scott grabbed the lead with Renezeder right on his heels.
On lap four, Renezeder made the pass for the lead stick, putting
Scott in second place. The two racers held their spots the rest of
the way to the checkered flag.
At the finish it was Renezeder-1st, Scott Douglas-2nd, and
Brascho-3rd.
“Our
goal this weekend was to finish on the podium, both days, without
any damage to the truck,” stated Scott Douglas. “We accomplished
that and now we can head to Chula Vista without having to perform
a major thrashing. I’m really proud that Douglas Motorsports were
able to keep our commitment to compete at all the WSORR events.
It’s been hectic, but my crew really came through, when we needed
them most. Thanks to Mike Oberg for driving our truck at Owatonna.
Thanks to AMSOIL for keeping our Precision Gear differentials
ProPower engine, and J & H transmission, running cool and strong
all season. Thanks to Kumho for the awesome tire compounds and
tread design. Thanks also to Ford Trucks, KC Hilities, and
American Racing. Without all their support, we couldn’t compete in
the inaugural season of the World Series of Off-Road Racing.”
The 2007 WSORR season saw Douglas Motorsports finish in the Top 3,
eight times. This includes four wins (two by Mike Oberg and two by
Scott Douglas), three second place finishes, and one third place
finish. Officially, Scott Douglas finished in fifth place, in
the WSORR Tour 2007 PRO-4x4 standings.
Next Race: September 29-30, - Championship Off-Road Racing at the
Quarry – Chula Vista, CA.
